In the peripheral sensory nervous system, the NG and the DRG, as two major clusters of sensory neurons, exhibit significant differences in anatomical location, embryonic origin and functional characteristics.

NG (Figure 1A), as the inferior ganglion of the vagus nerve, is located below the jugular foramen and originates from the epibranchial placode [3]. The mouse NG is a relatively small, bilateral structure, with each side containing approximately 6000 pseudo-unipolar sensory neurons [4].
