Dr. Pramod Kumar Garg: President, Indian Society of Gastroenterology- 2026

Despite his many achievements, Dr. Garg remains deeply grounded, crediting his father with instilling in him the values of hard work, honesty and service, and his mentor, Prof. Rakesh Tandon, with shaping his career in medicine and research. His mother, a pious lady, devoted her entire life to the upbringing of her children and also instilled the importance of education and a keen sense of duty among them. This is evident from the fact that all of them are accomplished professionals—his brother, a Professor of Surgery at AIIMS, New Delhi, and sister, a gynecologist.

His wife, Neetu, a physician, he says, has been a constant pillar of support. Seeing his devotion to the profession, she gave him the required space to dedicate his life to the larger good of humanity. Both their sons are pursuing medical science—continuing the family’s commitment to healing. In times when people are slowly shifting towards nuclear families, he has held a cohesive joint family with his parents and brother’s family under one roof, which is a rarity these days.

When asked about the future, his answer is characteristically simple: “Keep asking questions and continue serving patients”. His advice to young doctors is even simpler: “Patient first and everything else will follow”.
